The Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo is a teaching, research and extension unit. A unit is located at Cidade Universitária, São Paulo. Prior to the founding of the IME in 1970, Mathematics studies took place mainly in the Polytechnic School, whose activities began in 1893, even before the foundation of USP.
