My father was. Lancaster bomber pilot as was his cousin. Dad survived but his cousin didn't. I would like to visit this memorial for the men who served with them both (from all parts of the Commonwealth). Could you tell me exactly where it is. Coming from Australia I don't know London too well. Also could I place a small tribute to both men (a flag and a poppy) anywhere near the memorial. Thank you for your help.

Right being an ex Londoner living down under now glad to offer you some directions. Assuming the plane makes it to Heathrow not Gatwick...Heathrow Express train to Padington (TIP deals to be had in advance like serious savings if you book in Oz online). (You can also get Oyster cards for Tube in advance convenient and they mail them to you very quick service). From Paddington you need to take Bakerloo line (BROWN) heading south to Baker Street 3 stops. At Baker St you will change to Jubilee line (Silver Grey colour) heading south to Green Park just 2 stops. From Green Park time to go walkabout cross road to Green Park side start walking abouot 10 minutes its right before Wellington Arch on your left you cannot miss it. Safe travels and good luck. Thank you for your sacrifice! So Green Park best bet and closest with great walk.

The only time I would take a car there is at the weekend - checking beforehand on the tfl website about road closures first. You can park in Mayfair in the evening, not sure about the daytime, car parks will be expensive. Tube to Green Park is the best bet.
