We stayed just outside of Durango but the Texas grill had the best food. It was on the main strip right in town by the Wal-mart. We didn't go to any bars in the area but went on the Durango-Silverton train ride and it was the best way to see the sights! We enjoyed the trip there and back. Silverton is a great old mining town with lots of areas to ride in and the history there is great! I did do a ghost walk through the town of Durango and it was very interesting and fun!

SO SORRY this response is so late! I am supposed to get an email notification when someone posts a question but I did not receive one. At any rate, Downtown Durango has close to 100 different eateries, bars, coffee shop and desert places. They are all great in my opinion. I would need to know more of what you are looking for ... kid friendly? outdoor dining options? large party? estimate of what you want to spend per entree? Then we can give you a good referral or two or three.

I am from San Antonio and Austin, so don't travel on I40 between here and there. Looking at a map, you could stay in Amarillo, but that is not quite halfway, but it's close. You would have a longer drive the next day. I would recommend going to Tucumcari, NM. It's a little more than halfway, about 7 hours of your 13 hour drive. They have a Fairfield Inn, La Quinta, Best Western, Holiday Inn Express and more. There is a direct flight from DFW to Durango, with daily departures and arrivals. Go to United Airlines website, choose DFW and DRO, then check the calendar shop box to see a list of prices every day for the next month. There is one that is only $158 per person round trip! When you arrive, use Downtown Durango website as a resource, and also look for the Downtown Ambassadors in bright red uniforms if you need anything.
Q:
What’s the best hotel to stay in Durango and moderately priced?
A:
Check out the entry for The Adventure Inn. It's on the north side of town. We are staying here now and it is wonderful very priced reasonably priced!!!
