The federal team in charge of overseeing the safety of autonomous vehicles was already pretty small: only about seven people total, according to the Washington Post. But now the Elon Musk-led cuts have eliminated three of the seven.

The new administration, along with DOGE and Musk, created a federal buyout program that offered government employees the option to resign immediately, but still be paid and have benefits until October. As of Feb. 13, 77,000 employees accepted the offer, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
