Freeman walked on the Zips in 2019. He walked off last spring and into the NBA as a two-way player for the Pacers. He's just the seventh Zip to ever be drafted into the NBA and the first since 1987.

Freeman’s jersey went into the rafters at halftime. He is the first Akron player to be drafted into the NBA since the league went to a two-round draft in 1989. The Indiana Pacers selected Freeman with the 50th overall pick in June and he is on a two-way contract, splitting time between the Pacers and their G League affiliate, the Indiana Mad Ants.
