Trump has been a long-time ally of Netanyahu and dispatched his Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, to help broker the current six-week ceasefire in Israel’s war against Hamas and hostage-for-prisoner exchange.

It is believed that at least two of the six American hostages still held in Gaza are alive — Sagui Dekel-Chen, 35, who grew up in Bloomfield, Connecticut, and Edan Alexander, 19, from Tenafly, New Jersey. Four other Americans are believed to have been killed in captivity.

Three men held hostage in the Gaza Strip for more than 15 months were freed Saturday, bringing to 18 the number of captives released by militants since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas began Jan.

The cease-fire has held despite a dispute earlier this week over the sequence in which the hostages were released.
