THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Philippine ex-President Rodrigo Duterte landed Wednesday in the Netherlands a day after he was arrested in Manila on an International Criminal Court warrant accusing him of crimes against humanity over deadly anti-drugs crackdowns he oversaw while in office.

On Sunday, Duterte lashed out, labelling ICC investigators "sons of whores" while saying he would "accept" an arrest. Duterte is still hugely popular among many who supported his quick-fix solutions to crime, and he remains a potent political force.

Rodrigo Duterte previously insisted that the ICC has no jurisdiction over the Philippines, since he pulled the country out of the tribunal in 2019, three years after it took note of the drug war's rising death toll.
