Syria's relations with Iran and Russia remain an open wound for the country's people after the nations backed autocratic President Bashar Assad during its long war.

Shaibani, speaking from Abu Dhabi, emphasized that the new Syrian regime does not bear the consequences of the strained relationship once imposed by the Assad regime on Lebanon. He urged the Lebanese people and government not to hold Syria accountable for the repercussions of this past relationship.

Syria foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shibani said on Wednesday that his country has been receiving positive messages from Russia and Iran.
