Calgary city council approved a new Green Line plan that would allow construction on the southeast leg to begin this year, while committing to a functional study downtown.

Recent city councils, knowing this history, have spent hundreds of millions of dollars preparing for the new southeast Green Line to go underground through the heart of the city, with a station at 7th Avenue and 2nd Street S.W., and another at Eau Claire.
