San Diego has been waiting for rainfall, which finally made it to the region this week but really picked up on Friday. Friday’s rain has been the best we have seen so far this season, according to NBC 7 Meteorologist Angelica Campos.

As a weakening atmospheric river moved in off the coast late Thursday into Friday, widespread rain showers dampened parts of the region.

The latest predictions have showers lasting through the end of the week before skies clear up again on Saturday.

Scattered showers are expected early this week for San Diego County, with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon into Monday morning for the coast, valleys and mountains, forecasters said Sunday.

Warm and dry weather will close out the weekend, with rain and snow expected in parts of the region by midweek, according to the National Weather Service.

Cooler, cloudier conditions and periods of light rain are forecast in San Diego County through Friday night as a weakening atmospheric river moves southward into Southern California, according to the National Weather Service.

Some areas in Southern California, a region plagued by drought conditions, saw more than inch of rain this weekend.
