On February 22, 2025 a snowboarder was killed in an avalanche near Berthoud Pass, Colorado.

The victim was traveling on a terrain feature known as The Nose near Silverton, Colo., when the avalanche occurred on Thursday, officials said.

Colorado authorities are working to stabilize the snowpack as eight people across the western U.S. are believed to have died from avalanches this month.
