Former NBA player Michael Carter-Williams is hoping to get a WNBA franchise in Boston, whether it's through expansion or being a destination for a current team that wants to move.

Williams, a former NBA Rookie of the Year and Orlando Magic guard, is part of an ownership group looking to bring the WNBA to Boston, according to the Boston Globe.

The WNBA is in an expansion flurry, with teams in San Francisco (Golden State), Portland, and Toronto beginning play in the next two years.

The WNBA officially expanded to 13 teams this upcoming season with the addition of the Golden State Valkyries.

The Boston Globe reports Michael Carter-Williams is part of a new ownership group with actor-singer Donnie Wahlberg that is preparing an offer for a WNBA expansion team in Boston. Wahlberg started New Kids On The Block in Boston and MCW is a native of Hamilton, Massachusetts.
