A dozen House Republicans on Tuesday helped their Democratic colleagues bypass House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and force a vote to allow House members to vote by proxy for up to three months after having children.

House Republicans are slated to vote Tuesday on their spending bill that would fund the government at current levels through September 2025.

Speaker Mike Johnson plans to roll the dice Tuesday on a GOP bill to stop the federal government from shutting down this weekend. The top House leader is putting his party’s short-term funding measure to a vote on the floor not knowing if he has the votes to pass it and facing opposition from within his own ranks.
