The Delta Air Lines flight was about 30 minutes into its journey from Atlanta to South Carolina when crew members "reported possible smoke in the flightdeck."

In audio of an exchange between the flightdeck and air traffic controllers, one of the pilots can be heard asking for fire trucks on landing.

CAE is currently served by American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines. Las Vegas-based Allegiant will open service from the South Carolina capital on May 15 with flights to Orlando Sanford Airport (SFB). From May 22, Allegiant will start flying between CAE and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).

The FAA is investigating into the incident, which follows another recent Delta mishap—a crash landing in Toronto last week.
