The Krewe of Rex parade route has changed due to incoming severe weather and high winds, the New Orleans Police Department announced early Tuesday. Rex will roll at 9:30 from its traditional start location at Napoleon and Claiborne avenues. The krewe will travel down St. Charles Avenue to Calliope Street. The procession will end there.

Additional changes have been made to the route traveled by the Krewe of Rex. On Fat Tuesday, March 4, the New Orleans Police Department announced the updated route stating Rex will proceed down St. Charles Avenue to Calliope Street where they will end.

The announcement comes as other parishes announced cancellations or earlier start times for parades. However, changes in weather could present new changes.

With strong winds in the forecast on Tuesday, Mardi Gras parades in Jefferson Parish have been canceled, and two parades in New Orleans have adjusted their plans, WDSU and Fox 8 reported.

Tuesday is Mardi Gras, but some revelers in New Orleans and its surrounding area had to adjust their parades and plans due to strong winds up to 60 mph and a tornado watch.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, the Krewe of Zulu will roll at 6:30 a.m. instead of their regular 8 a.m. while the Krewe of Rex will roll around 9 a.m. on Fat Tuesday.
