Eight hostages held by Hamas militants are returned to Israel as Palestinian prisoner releases proceed — but can the Gaza cease-fire hold?

Israeli American hostage Keith Siegel was released by Hamas in the latest hostage-prisoner exchange as part of January's ceasefire deal with Israel. Israeli troops pull back but maintain a watchful eye on the tens of thousands of Gazans who had been displaced during the 15 months of fighting.

This will be the fourth hostage release since the ceasefire deal was agreed on 19 January, with more Palestinian prisoners expected to be freed.

Hamas has been using hostage release operations to rebuild its forces and map territory within Gaza, Israeli sources have told The Telegraph.
