President Donald Trump has nominated a longtime oil and gas industry representative to oversee an agency that manages a quarter-billion acres of public land concentrated in western states.

Kathleen Sgamma is the president of Denver-based Western Energy Alliance, where she’s worked for nearly two decades to reduce barriers for oil and gas producers extracting from federal lands.

The Trump administration has named Kathleen Sgamma, a vocal oil and gas advocate for Western states, to head up the Interior Department's Bureau of Land Management, which manages the use of the country's nearly 250 million acres of public lands.

Kathleen Sgamma now leads the Denver-based oil and gas trade group Western Energy Alliance. Environmental groups are already heated up.
