The Odisha government on Tuesday constituted a fact-finding committee to determine the circumstances that led to the 20-year-old Nepali girl’s unnatural death in KIIT hostel and what prompted the institute to issue suspension letters to students who were seeking justice.

On February 16, the third-year BTech student student was found dead in her hostel room, following which Nepali students staged a protest claiming that she was harassed by her fellow student and demanded justice for her.

The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in the east Indian state of Odisha has suspended three employees, including two hostel staffers, for allegedly misbehaving with Nepali students and evicting them from the campus during the recent protests over the suspected suicide of a Btech student from Nepal.

Tensions have been boiling at KIIT since Prakriti Lamsal, a third-year BTech student from Nepal, died of suicide on February 16. The cousin of the deceased student alleged that she hanged herself in her hostel room after being blackmailed by a classmate.
