These dancing avatars are made with a graphics technique called motion capture. They are created by company Method Studios using a specific type of computer animation applied to human dancers.

Computer animation is essentially a digital successor to stop motion techniques, but using 3D models, and traditional animation techniques using frame-by-frame animation of 2D illustrations.
