With an overtime win in Vancouver and a successful western Canada swing, the Red Wings are firmly back in the Eastern Conference race.

The Detroit Red Wings were tied for last place in the Eastern Conference five weeks ago. Now, they’re in a playoff spot. The remarkable reversal under coach Todd McLellan continued Sunday with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena.

This was a game that the Canucks dominated from an analytics perspective. At even strength, they held a 30-15 scoring chances advantage while also winning the high-danger scoring chances battle 14-2. In the end, though, they weren't able to capitalize on their opportunities as they ended up falling once again in overtime.
