CSU Channel Islands evacuated due to the rapidly spreading Laguna Fire in Camarillo, with firefighting efforts underway.

Firefighters got an upper hand on a fire that broke out on the hills west of the CSU Channel Islands campus near Camarillo Thursday morning.

As of 8 p.m., the Laguna Fire was at 70% containment with acreage at 93.5. The fire started Thursday morning near CSU Channel Islands in Camarillo.

The fire broke out near Laguna Road and Hueneme Road near the university, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
