BMW has teased the latest test rig for its Neue Klasse vehicle platform, which is supposed to underpin the next generation of the brand’s products. The automobile has been dubbed the “BMW Vision Driving Experience” and is not intended for sale.

What followed was a glimpse into BMW's next-generation, software-defined EVs. The VDX is a rolling testbed for BMW’s Neue Klasse range, the first of which is set to arrive in the U.S. later this year. The test rig produces an alleged 13,269 lb-ft of torque, generates 1,200 kilograms of additional downforce and can produce 3Gs of lateral force.

It’s all change at BMW. The new M5 was revealed just a few months ago, but it seems Munich’s engineers and designers are already working on a facelift. From the pictures here, we can see the tweaked M5 will benefit from similar treatment to the new iX SUV. In simple terms, it’s getting a Neue Klasse nosejob.

The changes are immediately apparent as the M5 adopts a Neue Klasse-inspired front fascia with a shorter grille that flows into new headlights. They’re joined by a new front bumper, which gains a middle intake as well as a revamped lower opening. The latter sports a central V-shape, which will presumably echo the one found on the M2.
