The first stage of the Volta ao Algarve ends in chaotic scenes after a large part of the peloton heads the wrong way, with the result later cancelled.

The opening stage of the Tour of Algarve ended in chaos on Wednesday when most of the peloton took the wrong road just before the finish, and race organisers later cancelled the results.

There was chaos and confusion at the end of the first stage of the Volta ao Algarve on Wednesday, as the majority of the peloton went the wrong way as they approached the finish line.

The stage was cancelled after majority of sprinters attempt finish amongst crowds and fans rather than finish straight

Vingegaard’s main rival for the GC is likely to be his old teammate, Primož Roglič. Roglič was another whose 2024 season was compromised by injury, but he remained as prolific as ever in the race’s he did manage to finish, winning GC in two out of three of them.
