At approximately 1:30 p.m. local time Monday, the volcano released a "small, sporadic splatter foundation," which then continued to increase in intensity until 6:41 p.m., when the eruptions began.

This is not the first time the volcano has shown activity this year, though the United States Geological Service (USGS) has lowered the alert level for the current eruption from RED to ORANGE.
