Bird flu in Nevada: Second dairy cow case in state detected in Churchill County
Bird flu has been detected in dairy cattle in Churchill County, marking the first case in Northern Nevada and the second in the state. The Nevada Department of Agriculture reported the new case after the first detection in Nye County in December. Both were in dairy cows.
The testing is part of a federal program called the National Milk Test Strategy and will be done at no cost to farmers.
More than 1,600 permitted cow farms will test their milk for H5N1, commonly called bird flu, starting in February.
