Germany won’t send troops to Ukraine without U.S involvement, AFP reports, citing a government source. The decision follows US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s refusal to deploy American troops as part of security guarantees to Kiev.

Germany, Poland and Spain all signalled reluctance to deploy troops to the Ukraine as part of the settlement. Britain, France and Sweden spoke out in favour as they attempted to put pressure on their European allies to step up their support for Kyiv.

Germany is likely to reject Sir Keir Starmer's plan to send a European peacekeeping force into Ukraine, according to reports. The UK and France are set to propose deploying soldiers to Kyiv if there is a deal to end the war with Russia, but Germany and Poland are said to be against the move.
