The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is looking for a 46-year-old inmate who escaped police custody Sunday afternoon. Billy Mason was being prepared for transport with other inmates just before 2 p.m.

Deputies are searching for an inmate who escaped from the Hennepin County Jail while he was being moved to another facility.

The press release says the man ran through an open security garage door of the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility at 1:53 p.m. Sunday while handcuffed with a waistbelt.

According to a statement provided Monday by the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Billy Mason, 46, fled on foot through an open security garage door of the Minneapolis jail as he was being prepared to be transported with other prisoners a little before 2 p.m. Sunday. Mason was handcuffed with a waistbelt at the time.

MINNEAPOLIS — Authorities are searching for a man who fled deputies as he was set to be taken from Hennepin to Ramsey County. It happened just before 2 p.m. Sunday at the Public Safety Facility in downtown Minneapolis, a spokesperson with the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office said.
