Daytona 500: Jimmie Johnson savors 3rd-place finish, strong Legacy Motor Club showing
The 49-year-old legend scored a third-place finish in the Great American Race, his best showing since winning for the second time in 2013. In addition, Legacy Motor Club's two full-time cars ran fifth (John Hunter Nemechek) and 12th (Erik Jones), despite the latter absorbing damage in a wild wreck that sent Ryan Preece airborne.
Jimmie Johnson Leads Legacy Double Top 5 at Daytona
But Legacy Motor Club had the best night of its existence on the biggest stage of all: the Daytona 500 on Sunday (Feb. 16). Johnson (third) and John Hunter Nemechek (fifth) notched the team’s first double top five of its existence. Additionally, Erik Jones finished 12th, as the team got three cars in the top 15 for the first time.
