While the actual renovation seen on screen is movie magic, filming did take place in various parts of Italy—and you can even stay at the location that portrays the villa’s exterior.

The interior scenes inside the villa were filmed at Cinecittá Studios in Rome, aka the largest film studio in Italy, where directors from Martin Scorsese to Luca Guadagnino have filmed. Federico Fellini’s 1960 film, La Dolce Vita (which we assume the title of this movie is a reference to) was also filmed at Cinecittá Studios.
