It's called The Apotheosis of Washington, depicted on the dome of the United States Capitol Building. The painting, created about 1863, shows George Washington sitting in the heavens and ascending to godhood. He sits among gods like Mercury, Neptune, and Minerva, with tons of other symbolism present. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting D.C.

As a result of George Washington ordering "total destruction" against certain American Indian towns, specifically, Iroquois ones, George Washington earned the title Conotocarious, which means "Town Destroyer",

Then, a voiceover of the meme went viral on YouTube in 2021, eventually leading to a Team Fortress 2 iteration. The meme later trended on TikTok and Twitter going into 2023, often resurfacing around the 4th of July.

Flash forward 200+ years and Washington gets credit for telling us not to do those things because they’ve caused so many problems since. In reality, anytime Washington wrote a speech of his own it was discarded because it was super defensive and all he talked about was how much he didn’t want to be a monarch.
