Jun 19, 1993 · Kevin Pang of JPL and John Bangert of the Naval Observatory said they have found a date in 1953 B.C. when the sun, moon and five planets all lined up in the sky at dawn -- providing the basis for the beginning of the Chinese calendar.

Oct 31, 1994 · One fragment of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 lit a 7-kilometer (5- mile) fireball hotter than the Sun's surface last July 18 as it plunged into Jupiter's night sky in full view of NASA's Galileo spacecraft, scientists have reported.

Dec 11, 2020 · The 2020 ‘ Great Conjunction ’ of Saturn and Jupiter is the closest these planets will appear in the sky since 1623 – just after Galileo first observed them with his telescope. They are easy to see without special equipment, and can be photographed easily on DSLR cameras and many cell phone cameras.

Our solar system consists of our star, the Sun, and everything bound to it by gravity – the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune; dwarf planets such as Pluto; dozens of moons; and millions of asteroids, comets, and meteoroids.

As the comet string nears Jupiter, its associated dust coma will be bombarded by charged particles trapped in Jupiter's magnetosphere. Gas and dust ejected from the comet may be swept up by Jupiter's magnetic field, possibly causing large changes in the density and composition of Jupiter's aurora.

Europa orbits Jupiter every 3.5 days and is locked by gravity to Jupiter, so the same hemisphere of the moon always faces the planet. Jupiter takes about 4,333 Earth days (or about 12 Earth years) to orbit the Sun (a Jovian year).
