The Practical Nursing program prepares individuals to practice within the legal scope of practical nursing under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice registered nurse, physician assistant, licensed physician, or dentist.

Individuals can pursue various types of nursing careers, including roles as licensed practical nurses and registered nurses. Professionals in the field can also specialize in caring for a specific patient group, such as neonatal, rehabilitation, and critical care nurses.

Completion of the Practical Nursing program will meet the KCTCS graduation requirement of digital literacy.

What is Practical Nursing (PN)? The Practical Nursing Program, approved by the Kentucky State Board of Nursing, combines classroom instruction with hands-on skill labs and supervised clinical instruction in local health care and/or other community facilities.

In our Licensed Practical Nursing Program you’ll learn to use skills and knowledge to fulfill the role of a nurse: enhance human flourishing, demonstrate sound nursing judgment, continually develop professional identity, and possess a spirit of inquiry to improve the quality of patient care.

Upon completion of the PN program, graduates are awarded a diploma in Practical Nursing and are eligible to apply to the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX-PN) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Our PN program is offered in different formats on our Downtown and Carrollton campuses.
