Built in 1957, Stanford Hall was the gift of University lay trustee Grattan T. Stanford ’04. The hall shares an entrance lounge, chapel, and friendly rivalry with the adjoining Keenan Hall.

The Stanford Story. In 1956, faced with an ever-expanding student population, famed Notre Dame president Fr. Ted Hesburgh commissioned the development of Stanford Hall, a landmark visible from Hesburgh Library to the far side of St. Joseph’s Lake.

University of Notre Dame residence halls - Wikipedia
There are currently 32 undergraduate residence halls at the University of Notre Dame, including 31 active residence halls and Zahm Hall, which serves as a transition dorm when residence halls undergo construction. Several of the halls are historic buildings which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [1] .

The dorm’s boxy shape and unadorned exterior inspired residents to nickname it “the cinderblock palace of love.” Stanford is connected at the front entrance and lobby with Keenan Hall, but Stanford residents enter only through the doors under their signage and vice versa.
