Why 5W40 and 0W40 Synthetic - Bob is the Oil Guy
Jul 7, 2015 · The difference between 0W-40 and 5W-40 is that 0W-40 starts from a much thinner base oil and uses more VII to increase KV100 to the SAE 40 level. That's the only real difference between the two grades. The end result? 0W-40 benefits from lower CSS/MRV (thanks to thinner base oil) and higher VI (thanks to more VII content).

Dec 19, 2018 · I have a new 2022 Ram Power Wagon that calls for 0W-40 oil that meets the MS-12633 specification. PUP 0W-40 meets that spec and is called for by name in the owners manual. There are I think two others, Red Line and Amsoil, that are supposed to meet this spec, but I do not want to use a hard to...

Aug 5, 2015 · M1 FS 0w-40 meets several more difficult specs just like Castrol 0w-40. The Euro lubes (and M1 0w-40 was the original SRT service fill until Pennzoil got the contract via the FIAT acquisition) have, on paper, superior physical properties over the SRT 0w-40, including lower Noack. They definitely go through significantly more testing.

While I have just sent a message to Mobil 1 via their web-site on this question, I'm trying to understand the differences (formula-wise) between these oils. Some on the internet are saying that ESP has now been renamed Supercar.
