The gun designed by Capt. Noble was built at the works of Sir William Armstrong, known as the Elswick Ordnance Works, New-Castle on Tyne, England. The contract called for a gun to throw a 2000 lb. projectile, with a muzzle velocity of at least 1,350 ft. per second.
