155 mm (6.1 in) is a NATO -standard artillery shell caliber that is used in many field guns, howitzers, and gun-howitzers. It is defined in AOP-29 part 1 with reference to STANAG 4425. The 155 mm (6.1 in) caliber originated in France after the Franco-Prussian War (1870–1871).

The 155 mm/52 (6.1") gun used on the PzH 2000 was developed by Rheinmetall Industrie AG and has a chromium-plated barrel. It uses a semi-automatic wedge-type breech mechanism with an integral 32-round primer magazine. Gun parameters such as chamber temperature are monitored automatically.

Standard NATO of 155 mm ammunition includes high-explosive projectiles, bomblets, smoke and illuminating rounds. Future developments include smart and cargo rounds, such as those already in service in the US Army.

Each Zumwalt carries two 155-millimeter Advanced Gun Systems, which were to have fired the Long Range Land Attack Projectile (LRLAP), a new, precision-guided artillery round with a range of 60 miles.
