Sep 30, 2024 · As mentioned in my recent “Hurt 496”, thread, I am developing an “80% drop-in” replacement for the 496 fuel rail. The end user will have to plumb them in and provide their own fuel pressure regulator.

Early 2001-2008 496 8.1 fuel rails were made from untreated straight steel tube. Painted on the outside but no rust or corrosin treatment inside. Ethanol in gas collects a lot of water in gas in fuel tanks and many boats have only Mercury filter which does not remove enough water.

Apr 1, 2017 · That said, the 496 has had issues with the IAC, and the bad thing about it starting to go, it can also take out your ECM. The typical IAC problem is it will either die or struggles when at idle. To verify it is the regulator you need to connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail.

May 5, 2012 · If there are issues with the fuel pressure from these readings then the problem could be in the fuel filter, fuel pump side of the system. If however these readings all seem to be good then it could be the dreaded rust in the fuel rail problem!

Mar 3, 2019 · Hello all, wondering if anyone has knowledge on the cool fuel module gen III replacement on a 2007 496 Mag engine? I have the new module and ready to replace but I am having difficult time removing the fuel line to the fuel rail from the top of the old (full of black paint!!) cool fuel module.
