Jun 15, 2010 · You can use paste wax, allow it to dry, then buff off. This will not leave any wax unless you are sloppy with the application and leave gobs of wax in the nooks and crannies. Lie Neilsen sells camilia oil for applying to the plane but I've never used it. With a clean bottom, you don't need any wax unless you want to try it.

Exterior wash/wax detailing around here is $60-100 for a car, and an airplane has at least three times the surface area, so $300 sounds pricey but not unreasonable to me for a top quality wash/wax job, especially if the plane is "horribly dirty."

Dec 31, 2007 · The secret to a really fast hand plane is not candle wax, but rather bacon drippings. Just keep a tin can by the stove and put the bacon drippings in it. Never throw that stuff away. Too valuable. Then take your palm and dip it in the can and rub the sole of the plane.

I use an auto detail spray (typically a Meguires) as a wing wipe after I get the bugs off following each flight except when traveling.

Like most things, there are many ways to do the job. His book implies "one true method." But that's my take, others may completely disagree.
