Black Flag has arguably the best supporting cast of characters of any AC game (and I say this is a hardcore Ezio fanboy)- Adewale, Mary/Kidd, Blackbeard, etc... good stuff. Rogue has... um, Haytham, I guess, is interesting, everyone else is a dud.

The story of Black Flag is great, one of the best in the series. The actual gameplay (meaning what you do between the story cutscenes) is a bunch of lazy, terribly designed tailing and/or eavesdropping missions that get old, annoying to the extreme and maddening VERY fast.

Jul 13, 2021 · Black Flag is more along the lines of what AC started off as, more to do with stealthy assassinations and a more straightforward story, whereas Origins and Odyssey are more like typical RPGs and have loads more side quests. While I personally like all three, Black Flag is a good start if you ever plan on playing older AC games

Nov 23, 2023 · AC4: Black Flag is great, but it's not really an AC game. More like a pirate game. AC has had an identity crisis since AC4 Black Flag. AC1 = open-world stealth/platforming game...excepts for the back 1/4th of the game (turns into an action-fest there).
