It is commonly known as the acorn moth, but this can also refer to the tortrix moth Cydia splendana from Europe. The wingspan is 15–25 mm. They are on wing from April to September. The larvae feed inside acorns and chestnuts.

Dec 24, 2009 · This moth eclosed in a sealed container full of acorns that I gathered last fall. So far I have taken some fruit*flies and presumed Acorn Weev*il gru*bs from this container and now this moth. I was unaware of its larva or pupa.
