Ryan received his B.F.A. in Printmaking from the University of Alaska, Anchorage in 2008. His endeavor to transform oral storyline into visual arts has been a nomadic process that combines traditional Western fine arts methods with cultural impressions from rural villages in Alaska.

Master Chainsaw Artist Ryan is a life-long Alaskan resident who's passion is replicating the unique wildlife of Alaska in wood and other various mediums. Ryan lives in the small coastal town of Valdez with his wife, Gianna, and his son, Jon Carlo.

Romer, part Yupik himself and part Athabaskan Indian himself (what he calls a “mixed bag of two cultures”), moved to Anchorage as a young adult and had lived there for 12 years before pursuing his path as an artist.
