Mar 1, 2011 · I skipped the C5 platform when I moved up from my 1996 A6 FWD Avant, and bought a 2006 A6 Avant. In a back-to-back comparison between a 2004 A6Q S-Line and a 2005 A6Q, the C6 came out on top in a number of categories: no timing belt, larger interior, better dash arrangement for the driver, newer generation ESP, and better fuel economy.

This second generation of A6 was known as the C5, and was offered as a sedan or 'Avant' station wagon. The A6 (C5) was fitted with a range of inline four, V6, and V8 engines, and featured the high performance S6 and RS6 among its most notable variants.
