Jan 10, 2020 · I haven't ever wished I had a shouldered barrel for my level of precision and accuracy. I would prefer a shouldered barrel just for ease putting it on. If you go barrel nut, consider using red loctite to fix the barrel nut then you can generally treat it like a shouldered barrel if you are playing switch barrel. Always check head space though.

Aug 17, 2018 · Well I ordered a prefit with the barrel nut about a month ago. 1:8" Twist 6.5CM 26" MTU contour with black nitride finish and Big Horn barrel nut for my Howa 1500. Excited to give this barrel a workout once it comes in. Should arrive in the next 6 weeks or so (hopefully sooner) but also need to get some barrel tools: action wrench and barrel vise.

THe constraints for the barrel nut were as follows: Must have enough thread to provide a stable, reliable joint. Must fit into a standard factory inlet.

Sep 7, 2014 · If the barrel nut has not yet been mated to the threads on the upper, tighten to 30-35 foot pounds and then take completely off. Do this a few more times to properly mate the threads, you will be thankful you did this when you decide to take the barrel off later. After that, tighten the nut back to 35 pounds and check for gas tube alignment.
