Barton Lynch (born 9 August 1963) is an Australian former professional surfer known for his competitive prowess and style. In 1988, he was crowned ASP World Tour Champion. He also won the 1991 Rip Curl Pro .

Within the surfing community BARTON LYNCH is regarded as the ‘thinking man’s surfer’. The former World Champion earned himself a reputation on tour as a tactically astute competitor, as well as becoming a respected spokesperson for surfing as a sport worldwide.

Breaking out from dominating Australian waves, Lynch flourished victory after victory across the Pro Junior, JJJ Junior and Australian Professional Surfing Association tour. With 15 years on the ASP tour and 17 WCT victories to his name, Lynch retired from competition at the end of 1997.

He also won the 1991 Rip Curl Pro. In 1998, he was inducted into the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame, and in 2000, he was inducted into the Australian Sporting Hall of Fame.

After his father died in a motorbike accident, 11-year-old Lynch promised his mother that he’d become a world champion surfer. The eldest of three boys, his rise was due largely to his father’s early influence.
