The Beretta Model 38 (Italian: Moschetto Automatico Beretta Modello 1938) was an Italian submachine gun introduced in 1938 and used by the Royal Italian Army during World War II. It was first issued to Italian police units stationed in Italy's African colonies.

The Beretta M1938 submachine gun was designed by Beretta engineer Tulio Marengoni as an improvement on the earlier M1918 design (which was in turn based on the Villar Perosa). Developed during the mid 1930s, the initial variant (M38) was a high quality gun, and very reliable.

The demands of wartime production resulted in a redesign of the Beretta Model 38. For mass production on the large scale demanded, the Beretta 38/42 was made slightly smaller and lighter than the original Model 38A.
