The Bijlmermeer (pronounced [ˌbɛilmərˈmeːr]), or colloquially the Bijlmer (pronounced [ˈbɛilmər]), is a neighborhood in the Amsterdam-Zuidoost borough (Dutch: stadsdeel) in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The other neighborhoods in Amsterdam-Zuidoost are Gaasperdam, Bullewijk, Venserpolder and Driemond.

Overigens wordt de naam Bijlmer(meer) als pars pro toto gebruikt voor heel stadsdeel Zuidoost. Organisatorisch bestaat de Bijlmer uit hetzelfde gebied tussen Diemen, A9, spoorlijn en Weespertrekvaart, inclusief de Venserpolder. Het CBS onderscheidt Bijlmer-Oost en Bijlmer-Centrum, met als grens de Gooiseweg .

The Bijlmer became an island outside of Amsterdam, with soaring crime rates, drug abuse and unemployment. Conditions were ripe for poverty and social exclusion to take root in this distinctly non-white neighbourhood. The Bijlmer gained a negative reputation nationally.
