Almora is located at an altitude of 5,500 feet, on a ridge at the southern edge of the Kumaon Hills of the Himalaya range (Lewis, 1960). Ranikhet, the nearest town, is a summer station for British troops about 25 miles west of Almora (Badley, 1931).
