The CZ was designed as a combat pistol, and the mag brake insures that mags are lost when doing quick mag changes. I dont know if there's a difference with the CZ 85's, but on the CZ 75's you can bend the mag brake a bit straighter and get it to drop free.

Since then I've had many CZs (75s, 75bs, 85s, several Compacts, a 40B, a 97B), some AT-84s, a number of Witnesses (including a Sport Long Slide in both .40 and .45 -- the predecessor of the Match Elite line), and a few Sphinxes -- all variations of the same basic design.

(The 85 Combat is an ambidextrous 75B without a decocker or firing pin safety -- and a couple of extra features.) Note: there are two versions of most CZ models nowadays: the old design, and the newer, simpler Omega design.
