When recommended oil change interval is 5000 or 10000 miles, but you only drive 2-3k per year, how often should you change the oil?

I heard that with a new car it is good to change the oil after just 500-1000 miles because breaking the car in leaves more residue in the oil than normal operation.

the filter and adding oil would seem to be enough. All you need is the filter to clean out the impurities in the oil.

Someone said Honda specifically advises NOT to do the 1st oil change within the first 5K miles, but I couldn't find that info anywhere in this booklet or the manual! Nowhere does it mention the timing chain replacement (4-cy), transmission oil or brake fluid changes schedule either. Am I missing another booklet?

A mechanic I know says to put a little of this in your crankcase before an oil change, drive around, then change the oil.

Every time I change my oil the seal on oil filter leaks. A bubble forms in the seal and sprays oil everywhere.
