May 21, 2014 · I'm looking to buy a new cat CTL. I am between the 289d and the 299d. My sales man at cat is telling me he sells 10 289s for every 1 299 he sells. He's telling me the 289 will do everything I want. What is the real difference in the machines? I build large masonry projects, so I often have to unload 4,000lbs pallets from trucks.

Mar 5, 2010 · I use my 289 in my side business and think it is the best CAT machine I have owned. I had a 277B, 287B, and the 289C all with the same engine. The 289 has met my expectations!

Jan 2, 2022 · John Deere 333g, Takeuchi TL12, BobCat t870, ASV120, Manitou 3200VT, and Kubota svl97-2 are all that I can think of other than New Holland but their largest machine is a class down at only 84hp. If you like the vertical sliding doors, the Kubota, Takeuchi, and Manitou have you covered.

Nov 1, 2019 · From my research, other than weight and breakout force, the Cat 259d & 289d are similar. I do a few jobs where I tear our trees (stumps also) and was curious if the 289d would have the force to do the job? Is it worth the $$$ to jump to the bigger machine? The 289 would do a lot more work when moving stumps or dirt.

Mar 30, 2020 · If you're thinking mulcher or other high flow tools, definitely go with the larger engine 299D. 299D sits quite a bit differently than the 259D for grading with the longer undercarriage. You can also shim the lower loader stops (shims available from Cat parts) to fine tune the rear bucket height.
